Jefferson City, MO—Representatives of a new collective bargaining unit at Lincoln University met with administrators of Lincoln University yesterday to discuss the process for moving toward recognition of the collective bargaining unit, affiliated with the Missouri National Education Association.

“We are encouraged that the administration is in the process of working toward recognition of the Lincoln University MNEA as a bargaining representative,” said Dr. Abdoulaye Bah, LUMNEA spokesperson.

At an earlier meeting, the LU Board of Curators approved a draft collective bargaining policy. LUMNEA will review that policy and make recommendations for change. LUMNEA will also work with the administration to define the collective bargaining unit.

“We are confident that representation in collective bargaining with the MNEA will result in better working conditions for faculty and better learning conditions for students at Lincoln University,” Dr. Bah added.

The 35,000-member MNEA represents teachers, education support professionals, college faculty, retired teachers and students studying to be teachers in school districts and on college campuses throughout the state. It is the Missouri affiliate of the 3.2 million-member NEA.
